THE INSPIRATION:
Our cheery tablescape celebrates the signature pink hues of Valentine’s Day in a way that feels textural, fresh and fun, while retaining a sense of elegance and sophistication. Inspired by the gradient pink and purple colours featured in Sarah’s Valentine’s Day greeting card for Hallmark, this theme incorporates a variety of shades from pale, delicate pinks found in the glass coasters, to richly saturated lipstick tones in the dinnerware and ranunculus, to deeper magenta hues in the napkins and tablecloth.
THINK LAYERS:
The key to creating a beautiful Valentine's Day tablescape is to think about layers. Attempt to layer different textures and complementary colours as we’ve done here with woven placemats, glossy bone china, linen napkins, glistening glass, brass accents and a stitched lattice-pattern tablecloth. The layering technique adds visual interest, depth and a sense of cohesiveness.
GO CASUAL:
For brunch, keep your table setting casual by doing away with candles, and by limiting yourself to a three-piece flatware arrangement instead of the more formal five-piece setting. And most importantly, have some fun with your tablescape; for instance, we folded the napkins casually between the dinner and salad plates as though to appear gracefully undone. This helps gives the table an overall lighthearted feel.
MAKE IT PERSONAL:
As far as table settings go, there's nothing like personalized place cards to make your guests feel welcome. We created these DIY place cards using paint chips that we folded in halves and cut into heart shapes (remember that arts and crafts trick?), then we personalized each card with a silver sharpie. This is a simple, personal touch that reminds us of exchanging Valentines back in grade school.
